Narcissism,
That’s what they’ll call it.
When all my life I’ve learned
That no one cares for you
Unless you do.
I’ve gotten good at it
I don’t need others
Now that I’m competent,
Now that I’m content
It’ll only feed their contempt
They will see me and ask
“What makes you so confident?”
Why can’t I smile
And be unbothered?
They will mislabel me
They will misjudge me
I will become a mascot
For all their insecurity.
This is not narcissism
It’s their incompetency
To face reality honestly
They speak for themselves,
Yet only prove my integrity.
Sadly for them, it’s true
I’ve already paid my dues.
I will be better than they are,
And they will hate me for it,
but I don’t need their credit.
None of them can dictate my merit.
